Kryvorivnya

Full day adventure tour of the picturesque village of the Ukrainian Carpathians. Kryvorivnia is a village in Verkhovyna raion, Ivano-Frankivsk oblast, situated in the Hutsul region. Kryvorivnia was first mentioned in 1717. At the turn of the 19th century it was a favorite summer resort for Ivan Franko and other Ukrainian scholars and writers, such as Mykhailo Hrushevsky, Mykhailo Kotsiubynsky, Lesia Ukrainka, Olha Kobylianska.

It is located in the picturesque corner of the Carpathians in the bend of the river Chornyi Cheremosh (Black Cheremosh), so travelers can see the beauty of the nearby mountains. If you move along the road north of the village, you will get Bukovetsky Pass, from where the pedestrian route takes you to the rocks of Pysaniy Kamen or to the top of the Ihrecs (1,131 m). It is also nice to climb mountain meadows that extend over the village to admire the landscapes and make some spectacular photos.

If you are fond of ancient architecture this beautiful wooden church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin is located in the village of Kryvorivnia in the heart of the Ukrainian Carpathians is sure to visit. 
It was built in 1719. The wooden building is spicily painted and is considered to be the most perfect work of the Hutsul architectural of 18th century. Near the church is another monument of architecture the old belfry that was built in 1818. The church things that age is over two hundred years are preserved there. 

  • A magic people with magical abilities

Kryvorivnya considered not only the "summer capital of Ukrainian culture," but the magical capital of Hutsul. Since time immemorial, here and in nearby villages lived, and some argue that still reside Molfars - the people with purported magical abilities in Hutsul culture. Their abilities focus around herbalism and other folk magic, they dealing with quackery, healing and predict the future. The prominent Carpathian molfar was Mykhailo Nechay. Several documentary films were shot and several books were written about him.

Life and customs Hutsul, including those living in Krivorivnya, pushed Michael Kotsyubinskogo to write the story "Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors". It was in 1911, and in 1964 Sergei Parajanov made a film based on this work. The film convey lifestyle of Hutsuls, their traditions, customs and connection with nature and magic. Part of the filming took place in Krivorivnya. House where the shoting took place now is the museum.

  • The mysterious places of power - Painted Stone

Near Kryvorivnia village is the unique place - Painted Stone. The Painted Stone (at Bukovets Pass, 1221 m) is one of the most beautiful and mysterious places of power enveloped with legends and mysterious persons. This name is not accidental. This complex of picturesque rocks in height from 2 m to 20 m and a width of 80 m contains rock paintings, the most ancient of which belong to the times of Kievan Rus. According to some legends, there was a pagan temple. These rock drawings are still a mystery to scientists and archaeologists who can’t decipher their meaning.
Every spring after the first thunderstorm the local residents come to the Painted Stone to get energy, which is accumulated after winter and to get rid of all the negative. For centuries pilgrims have been coming to this place, and today curious tourists go there in search of supernatural power, inspiration, a flow of strength and vivacity.
On the way to Painted Stone there is an exciting panorama of the peaks and mountain ranges of Chornohora, Hryniava and the far meadows and dense spruce forests.
